ThefirstG20FinanceMinistersandCentralBankGovernorsMeetingundertheSouthAfricaPresidencywasheldinCapeTownonFebruary26thand27th,2025.Themeetingdiscussedglobaleconomicoutlooks,aswellasthe2025workplansforkeytopicssuchasinternationalfinancialarchitecture,financialsectorreformandsustainablefinance.DeputyGovernorXuanChangnengattendedthemeetingandmadestatementsonbehalfofPBOC.

Theoverallviewofthemeetingwasthattheglobaleconomyremainsbroadlyresilient,butuncertaintiesanddownsiderisksremain,includinggeopoliticaltensions,economicfragmentationandtradeprotectionism.Allsidesagreedtofurtherenhancemacropolicycoordination,andworktowardthestrongsustainable,balancedandinclusivegrowthoftheglobaleconomy.TheMinistersandGovernorsreiteratedthecommitmenttoastrong,quota-based,andadequatelyresourcedIMFatthecenteroftheGlobalFinancialSafetyNet.TheywelcomedtheIMFExecutiveBoard’sworktodevelopbyJune2025possibleapproachesasaguideforfurtherquotarealignment,includingthroughanewquotaformulaunderthe17thGeneralReviewofQuota,tobetterreflectmembers’relativepositionsintheworldeconomy.Membersacknowledgedthesignificanceofsustainablefinance,andagreedtoprioritizeimprovingtheglobalsustainablefinancearchitecture,catalyzingclimateadaptationfinanceandsoon.

DeputyGovernorXuanChangnengstatedthattheChineseeconomyhascontinuedtopickupandthePeople’sBankofChina(PBOC)hasachievedpragmaticresultsinareassuchasimplementingfinancialreformsandpromotingcross-borderpaymentconnectivity.Henotedthat,astheco-chairoftheG20SustainableFinanceWorkingGroup,thePBOCwillcollaboratewithallsidesonadvancingsustainablefinanceandstriveforgreaterprogressintheyearof2025.
